Travel Advisory for Arcata Ca Redwood Park

February 20th, 2009 · 3 Comments

NOTE 20 FEB 09 - Old Glory Radio issues Tourist Travel Advisory for city of Arcata Redwood Parks.

Birdies are chirping into our ears that the city of Arcata Ca. is thinking about officially opening up the Arcata Redwood Park for squatting of the increasing homeless population attracted to the city for it’s free services and open marijuana distribution centers.

Old Glory Radio suggests that Children and pets wandering through the trails of the city park should be supervised. Hypodermic needles, human waste, crime, open drug use, and garbage continue to pose a public health problem.

“Birdies are chirping into our ears that the city of Arcata Ca. is thinking about officially opening up the Arcata Redwood Park for squatting of the increasing homeless population attracted to the city for it’s free services and open marijuana distribution centers.”

Those birdies are way off, Tom. Arcata is (too) slowly moving towards restoring control of its public spaces. When the Transactions and Use Tax kicks in April 1, it will begin to generate up to $1 million per year in General Fund revenue. One-third of that is earmarked for public safety (the rest or roads and transportation). Part of that includes restoring the moribund Park Ranger program. This has all been reported in the newspaper, birdies notwithstanding.

Further, I stridently object to your callous apostrophe abuse. http://www.bostonuk.com/linkdetail.php?id=585&cid=1208&f=Boston

” Hypodermic needles, human waste, crime, open drug use, and garbage continue to pose a public health problem.”

    This is 100 percent true.

ED NOTE: Yes, I do abuse apostrophes. I don’t mean to, it just happens….but I am “working” on it.

Tom, are you saying that if there were not any homeless people in the park that you would let your kids just walk around in there unsupervised? Have you never heard of mountain lions or the occasional rabid fox? Geez, I guess as long as there are no homeless on the freeway, that would be an o.k. place for kids to wander unattended. Brilliant!

Admitting it is the first step.

Since we’re on a roll, I forgot to register my red-faced indignation over your use of an Oxford comma in that top sentence as well. My bad.
