Interview with Woodbury Vt Parent Pledge Of Allegiance

November 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment

Old GLory Radio interview with parent at ground zero in Woodbury Vermont concerning the Banning of the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms as reported by the AP and Fox News. Audio interview at bottom of posting. 11/21/08

Discussion thread on this topic via Free Republic……..….

************** Press Release Friday, November 21, 2008 12:00 pm EST From: Woodbury, Vermont School Board RE: The Pledge of Allegiance **************

WOODBURY, VERMONT: The Woodbury School Board members wish to make a statement regarding the misinformation in the media about the situation related to the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in the Woodbury Elementary School. — It has been the tradition at Woodbury Elementary School for more than ten years to recite the Pledge at the weekly school assembly. At some point in the previous school year, the Pledge was dropped from the meeting. This was not intentional, but an oversight due to scheduling conflicts in the weekly assembly. When the situation was brought to the attention of the Principal, the weekly recitation was returned to the weekly school meeting. — A petition signed by over 300 registered voters in Woodbury requested that the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance “.be made part of the school day routine.” The Board asked the school staff to come up with a way to comply with the desire of the community, which they did. — Currently, the whole school community (consisting of 55 children plus teachers) assembles each morning in a large foyer connecting the four classrooms of the school. As the children stand, a sixth grader is in charge of reading the announcements and leading the Pledge. The students remain in the foyer for recitation of the Pledge and then step back into their classrooms after the Pledge has been recited. Those children and teachers with a religious or philosophical belief that makes recitation of the Pledge a violation of their conscience have the option to abstain from the recitation. — The Pledge has not been “banned” from the classroom, nor has “under God” been banned. The board has now voted twice to support the decision of the staff to incorporate recitation of the pledge into the school day routine as requested by the petition. At this point, the staff has chosen to have the 55 students at Woodbury Elementary School recite the Pledge as a community (as it has traditionally been done) rather than in their individual classrooms. — This conversation has never been about should the Pledge be said, but about how often and where it should be said. The Pledge is now said on a daily basis in the Woodbury Elementary School and there is overwhelming support among parents and students for this current arrangement. ************** Contact: Retta Dunlap, chair of board PO BOX 72 Woodbury, VT 05681 = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Humboldt State University Should Be Shut Down

November 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

The Problem with Humboldt State University

With everyone else piling on I have to call attention to the obvious. The North Coast Journal article this week was, as usual, well done and almost complete. Try as they do….they just can’t bring themselves to state the obvious.

The article outlined the crisis HSU is currently in. Stressing just how close they are to losing what is left of it’s academic reputation and clearly outlining the infighting over dwindling budget resources.

The college president, Rollin Richmond, is quoted as referencing a sort of “tribalism” that has formed. Very good analogy. He further went on to relate that he is amazed at the amount of money being diverted from education to prisons.

The Faculty department, the administration, and the students all wringing their hands and collectively shouting into the pot filled quad….”why….oh Darwin why!”

Well I will tell you and you won’t need to pay me the $65,000 you shelled out recently to consulting firms.

Half your faculty and most of the students are stoned most of the time and your education budget is shrinking in direct proportion to the illegal alien drain on the education system.

Like most institutions who find themselves governed by liberals, all too soon the money has been siphoned off to pet projects, any type of fiscal responsibility quickly disposed of as evil racist practices. What you are left with is a student body well schooled in indoor cultivation of illegal drugs (with a minor in golf Frisbee) and a faculty spending their free time contemplating BTU exchange from cow dung.

If you want to save your institution, I mean really want to save it…..replace the dead wood in your faculty, require your students to actually learn something…..and demand the Governor remove the third world drain from the state.

As far as I am concerned, the place should be put under abatement and closed as a public nuisance.

Day Without a Gay Dec 10 2008

November 17th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I am passing on the following press release I received this morning…..no comment.

DISCUSSION THREAD ON THIS TOPIC VIA FREE REPUBLIC……..

———————– December 10, 2008 is Day Without A Gay! Gay marriage equality activists shift focus to service.

EUREKA, CA — Gays, lesbians, and straight allies plan to call in “gay” (not sick) to work and school on December 10, 2008 to protest passage of anti-gay constitutional amendments in Arizona, Florida, and California. Instead of showing up for work or school, protesters plan to volunteer for local gay and civil rights organizations across the country.

Every day since Election Day, thousands have protested up and down streets in cities across California, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento. A national, grassroots coalition of LGBT activists have followed in their footsteps. The grassroots organization, Join the Impact, held its first nationwide day of protest on November 15th. In Humboldt County an estimated 700 people joined together at the Courthouse with the estimated 1,000,000 people across the country and world. Now gay citizens and their allies are teaming up to show America and the world how we can love.

On December 10, 2008 the gay community will take a historic stance against hatred by donating their time to a variety of different causes in order to raise public awareness of the need for LGBT equality in marriage and in other civil rights.

“Imagine life without your favorite teacher, your child’s pediatrician, your daily bus driver, your employee, much of the U.S. forces, your best friend, your neighbor, your mother, father, sister, brother or your child. A Day Without a Gay will show how many LGBT and straight allies there are that are necessary for today’s economy, societal support and the functioning of the world on a daily basis. We do not want to work for or be a part of an institution, a society or a world that discriminates against who we are.” said A Day Without A Gay Co-Chair Julia Boyd, a Child Development major at Humboldt State University.

To search or post a volunteer opportunity, visit http://daywithoutagay.org/.

WHAT: “Day Without A Gay” Prop. 8 Protest

WHO: LGBT and straight citizens of Humboldt County and surrounding areas.

WHEN: Wednesday, December. 10, 2008
