<description>I was thoroughly impressed with your short video of the Eureka Sister's Anniversary picnic. They are still a relatively new group, yet have done an amazing amount of work raising significant sums of money for local charities.
A couple of years ago when a group of Eureka/Arcata locals first met to discuss the possibility of starting an Abbey of Sisters in their area, I met with them and was honored to later be asked to be their Founding Mother (their Mentor). I consider them all to be my children as we each strive to raise funds and awareness in our local geographic areas for charities.
I must admit, that I never in a million years would have thought that I myself would become a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence. But after seeing the incredible work they do and how much fun they have doing it, I said, Sign me up. And now, after 6 years as a Russian River Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, I've gotta tell ya, it is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had in my life.
I am a Quaker and was raised very conservatively. In many ways I still am. But I have an open heart and an open mind. And those in need around me are more important to me than what my political beliefs are or what my sexual orientation is. It makes no difference to me.
Yes, there are many groups of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence around the world. And each may have a different focus for their energies and fundraisings within their group. Thank heavens for diversity. Some may focus primarily on LGBT or HIV support charities. Some may be more politically active than others. Some may raise funds for a wide variety of charities that have nothing to do with politics or sexual orientation. But our overall philosophy is to promugate unversal joy and to expiate stigmatic guilt. And, Hey, it works.
So, thanks again, and for what it's worth, keep up the good work!
